EducateHER

Nigeria has the highest number of out-of-school children in the world, with over 18.5 million children currently out of school, approximately 60% of whom are girls. EducateHER is a girls-focused education sponsorship program that provides access to quality learning, essential materials, and menstrual health support.

Problem

Girls in underserved Nigerian communities face multiple barriers to education, including:

Poverty: Families often cannot afford school fees, uniforms, or learning materials.

Early marriage and child labor: Economic and social pressures frequently pull girls out of school.

Period poverty: Lack of access to sanitary products and menstrual health education leads to absenteeism and can contribute to school dropouts.

Cultural and social biases: Gender norms may deprioritize girls’ education compared to boys.

These barriers result in low enrollment, high absenteeism, and limited educational attainment, preventing girls from reaching their full potential.

Our Approach

We identify and enroll out-of-school girls in underserved communities and IDP camps into partner schools.

Provide educational sponsorship, covering school fees, uniforms, books, and essential learning materials to remove financial barriers.

We deliver mentorship and guidance to boost confidence, academic performance, and personal development.

Engage communities, involving parents, caregivers, schools, and local leaders to create supportive environments and long-term commitment to girls’ education.

We implement the Adopt-a-Child model, where individual donors and partners sponsor a girl’s education journey and receive periodic updates on progress, fostering personal impact.

Monitor attendance, performance, and progress of the girls.
